One of the important rules is not running data cables in a position that is parallel to electrical wiring. Many network cables are made of twisted pairs, wiring which has two conductors twisted together for cancelling external electromagnetic interference, in order to prevent cables from affecting each other. As a byproduct, they generate a magnetic field from the low voltage running through their wires. If network cables are laid next to electric cables, there is a chance that the cables’ magnetic fields will be interrupted, leading to substandard signal quality or a slow network.
Exceeding Distance
The majority of cabling professionals are well aware of the maximum distance limits of unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cabling up to 1 Gbps is 300 feet. When cables are run for 10 Gbps to 40 Gbps deployments, always be aware of the recommended distance limits that are imposed on the specific type of cable being used.
